Getting Around The Local Area By Bike

Depending on how confident and fit a cyclist you are, there are a range of destinations that can be accessed by bike from Edgehill Park.

For confident cyclists, Whitehaven Centre can be accessed in around 20 minutes, giving access to a wide range of amenities including supermarkets, schools, pharmacies, sports clubs and more. Corkickle train station can also be reached in under 15 minutes by bike.

For more leisurely rides, you’re ideally located to take advantage of the stunning local scenery that Cumbria has to offer and there are plenty of designated cycle routes to choose from. The National Cycle Network Route 72 can be joined in just 5 minutes along Mirehouse Road, offering a mix of scenic coastal paths, countryside trails and urban sections.

Alternatively, you could try the Whitehaven to Ennerdale cycle path, a 10-mile surfaced cycling route which passes through Cleaton Moor and Sheriff’s Gate. Following disused railway lines, the route is popular for both locals and tourists – with a sculpture trail adding interest along the way, as well as the stunning scenery.
